What does our Parent-School Organization do?

Engage Parents
Parent Membership
Help The School Raise Larger Amounts
Engage parents with our school and build parent community. When parents are involved at school their students do better. When parents are involved, the school is stronger with more to be proud of!
Hold regularly scheduled PSO meetings with weekly communication through the school Monday Mail to provide messages and information parent-to-parent.
Ensure each grade level is represented with a parent on the City Academy Advisory Council.
Hold regular “socials” that help parents get to know each other while serving the school – For example: invite parents to work together and with students and teachers from building and grounds committee; or invite parents to stop in the school the first Thursday morning each month for coffee/juice/bagels/Q&A with a member of PSO and a school administrator; or organize a parent social upstairs at school while their students are having a dance downstairs…
Organize volunteer coordination so all parents know how to volunteer and feel they can get involved at the school and/or with PSO events in a way the makes sense for them and their schedules.
Help form active Parent Booster Clubs for each of our academic and sports school teams that compete on behalf of City Academy.
Generate an annual PSO working budget through $5 parent memberships and other small donations for the events and activities PSO is collaborating with the school to make happen. Use the PSO budget to further the mission of PSO – bringing parents together and building community while supporting the school. Some examples of events or activities that PSO funds are used for:
Welcome new parents potluck social at Liberty Park
Parent socials and work meetings through the year
Supplemental funds if needed for PSO providing parent donated meals for teachers on conference days, teacher appreciation days, etc.
Support for City Academy annual student awards
Refreshments and help for school open houses – August Registration, Art Share, Back-to-School Night, College Night, etc. [Also promote PSO $5 membership & volunteering at all these events]
Recognitions for PSO volunteers at end of year school awards ceremonies
Banners, posters, signs helping promote school events, and academic and sports teams
Help support student committee events and activities like Thanksgiving Feast, garden and yard clean-up and planting, school dances or parties, school library improvement
Help the school raise larger amounts of money for the general City Academy Budget to help offset waived school fees for the over 50% of our school families who qualify for fee waivers (waived fees are approximately $25,000 annually):
Organizing and carrying out our annual giving event, the sponsored Pickleball Tournament. The Board partners with PSO in developing the Pickleball Tournament as our premier fund raiser and fun weekend every year.
Promoting sales of City Academy clothing and gear at summer registration, for sports and other special events, and throughout the school year.
Organizing and promoting regular “Eat out” events at local sponsoring restaurants.
Help ensure good family participation with City Academy community partners – shop at Smiths, Amazon Smile online shopping.
Other fundraising events as possible and desired. For example, family spaghetti night, or a silent auction in conjunction with Art Share or other school event.
