Salt Lake City, Utah – City Academy Charter High School, located at 555 East 200 South in Salt Lake City, will host a Native Garden planting event with Salt Lake City Garden Club on Thursday, September 11 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. City Academy is one of Utah’s original tuition-free public charter schools and has been serving students since 2000 in grades 7-12.
Dr. Grant Stock, City Academy Director said, “We are excited to plant our Native Garden located in front of the school. This is a project that started last spring in partnership with Salt Lake City Garden Club (SLCGC) who came and trained students on native gardens. They assisted our students in planning and engineering 11 plots. On September 11th, we are planting these plots. and would love to share the experience with the community. We have been partnering with Salt Lake City Garden Club and are supported by donations from Mill Creek Rotary and the Rotary Foundation.”
City Academy launched the Native Community Garden as a service project for middle and high school students who worked jointly with SLCGC adult mentors to learn about native plants, water-wise gardening, and garden design. City Academy has prioritized community-engaged learning along with broad school-based educational opportunities in its curriculum for over 25 years. Included in that is a strong commitment to the arts as an integral part of a good education, as that helps students develop skills and creativity, along with building overall personal excellence that nurtures each student to find their own best success.
